2016 AC World Championship-Day One Update

With the action underway for day two of the WCF Association World Championship in West Palm Beach, Florida, here's a quick look at how the eight blocks stacked up on day one with some early results already starting to factor in:

BLOCK A

World ranked #30 Matthew Essisk (USA) started strong at 3-0 and he has been matched by #22 Mark Avery (ENG) also at 3-0. Avery took a key win over #27 Jenny Clarke (2-1) 26tp-10.

BLOCK B

#3 World Ranked Reg Bamford (ZAF) is off to a good start with a 3-0 record that with a sextuple and a quadruple. #44 David Walters (WLS) is also 3-0 with a win over #26 Peter Landrebe (AUS) who is at 2-1. #167 Simon Jenkins (USA) from the qualifier and has registered a 2-1 record with his loss coming to #47 Jose Riva (ESP) (2-1).

BLOCK C

#41 David Openshaw (ENG) and #45 Jeff Soo (USA) lead the block at 3-0. Openshaw notched a 26-8 win against #25 Pete Trimmer (ENG) (2-1), while Soo was able to handle #7 David Maugham (ENG) 26-2. Maugham is at 2-2. Maugham's other loss was at the hands of #74 Stuart Lawrence (USA) 26-5. Lawrence is at 2-1 as is #39 Duncan Reeve (SCO).

BLOCK D

#21 David Maloof (USA) stands at the top of the block at 3-0 with two triples in first day action. #5 Paddy Chapman (NZ) follows closely behind at 3-1 after taking a 0-26tp loss to #28 Greg Fletcher (AUS) (2-1). #131 Sam Murray (SCO) is also at 3-1 with wins over Fletcher, #59 Keith Aiton (ENG) and #63 Mark Omerod (ENG).

BLOCK E

#8 Stephen Mulliner (ENG) and #14 Gavin Carter (ENG) lead at 3-0. #111 Sherif Abdelwahab (USA) from the qualifier has made his way into the second group at 2-1. #54 Kevin Beard (AUS) and #56 Danny Huneycutt (USA) also stand at 2-1.

BLOCK F

With a couple of Sunday results already in, #9 Samir Patel (ENG) and #15 James Death (ENG) have raced out to 4-0 records. Patel has a win over #31 Jim Nicholls (AUS) and Death had a 26tpo-15 win over #53 Ian Lines (ENG).

BLOCK G

Again with Sunday results now coming in, #24 Stephen Forster (AUS) leads the block at 4-0. #29 Chris Williams (WLS) follows at 3-0. The big win for Forster came against #10 Jeff Dawson (ENG) (2-1), while Williams most impressive win thus far came against #18 James Hopgood (ENG) (3-1).

BLOCK H

Also, including a Sunday morning win, #83 Christian Carter (ENG) now stands on top of the block at 4-0. He is followed by #86 Stephen Morgan (USA) at 3-0. Carter had wins over #11 Ian Dumergue (AUS) (2-2) and #33 Alain Giraud (ENG) (2-1). Morgan's big win came against #16 Ben Rothman (USA) who is still near the top at 2-1.
