Tournament Director School with Jeff Soo

Have you ever wanted to learn how to be a Tournament Director?  As a new benefit of membership, the USCA is offering an opportunity to learn the basics of tournament administration from Jeff Soo.  When you finish, you'll feel confident that you can run a small club tournament of at least 20-30 people.  This event will be held via Zoom over four 90-minute sessions.  You must plan to attend each session. 

Each session will include a mix of general event management issues and scheduling techniques.  Participants are expected to complete reading assignments before each session, and will be assigned homework after each of the first three sessions.

Session 1: Event Management Basics

  • Roles and responsibilities

  • Event capacity

  • Simple knockouts: rounds, byes, seeding patterns

Session 2: Scheduling Basics

  • Realistic game intervals

  • Standard blocks: seeding, pattern of rounds

  • Crafting the schedule

  • Incomplete blocks

Session 3: Real-world Scheduling Issues

  • Multiple venues

  • Odd numbers

  • No-shows, withdrawals

  • Weather delays

  • Complex tournaments

Session 4: Etc.

  • Using croquetscores.com

  • GC and AC rankings

  • USCA reporting requirements

Participants who successfully complete all four sessions will receive a Certificate of completion from the USCA.

The cost to participate is $50 and you must be signed into the USCA website to register.
