Adam Barr tops international field; emotional tribute honors Brian Brittain

North Toronto Croquet proudly hosted the 2025 Canadian National Golf Croquet Championship from July 10-13, welcoming 26 players from 15 clubs across Canada, United States, England, Spain and Egypt. Adam Barr defended his national title, securing his status as one of Canada’s premier croquet players. In an exciting final match, Adam defeated Macey White of Chesapeake Bay Croquet Club in three closely contested games: 7-4, 5-7, 7-4.

Championship Plate - Nancy Crouch of Chesapeake Bay Croquet Club captured the title with outstanding play against Bill Simmons Jr., Sarasota Country Croquet Club. In the First Flight, North Toronto’s KS Tsang was victorious after a tightly fought match with Don Oakley.

With top-tier competitors in both the Championship and First Flight divisions, the four-day tournament delivered exceptional play and memorable moments. Despite intense heat — the index soared above 100°F on three of the four days — players delivered some of the finest croquet seen in recent memory.

A particularly touching moment came on Day One, when players and volunteers gathered for a group photo in a heartfelt tribute to a beloved friend, Brian Brittain.

This successful event would not have been possible without the leadership of Tournament Director Adam Barr and Event Coordinator Naomi Fisher, as well as the dedication of an outstanding team of volunteers. Special thanks go to Alain Giraud, who prepared the lawns and was critical to maintaining top-tier playing conditions.

The 2026 MacRobertson Shield competition has entered day two of the final round with New Zealand leading England 2-1 after day one in the title test. The early action on day two favors England as they lead two of the three doubles matches 1-0, with the test currently on a lunch break.

England and New Zealand Meet With MacRobertson Shield on the Line

The 2026 MacRobertson Shield reaches its decisive stage Wednesday as England and New Zealand begin a five-day Test that will determine the Association Croquet World Team Championship. Both teams arrive at the Surbiton Croquet Club with perfect 2-0 records through the opening two rounds. Under the championship’s round-robin format, the winner of the final Test will claim the Shield, while Australia and the United States meet simultaneously to decide third place.

It was a beautiful weekend for croquet as 24 players from as far away as Florida, Georgia, Colorado, Oklahoma, Indiana, and Illinois traveled to Wisconsin to compete in the 2nd Annual Milwaukee Doubles Open at the picturesque Lake Park setting.

England has earned the top seed for the 2026 MacRobertson Shield, setting the opening-round matchups for the Association Croquet World Team Championship Tier 1, scheduled for July 24-August 9 at four clubs across southern England.

US Players Invited to Declare Availability for 2027 AC World Championship

American players interested in competing in the 2027 Association Croquet World Championship are invited to declare their availability to the United States Croquet Association by August 26, 2026. The championship will be held January 30-February 7, 2027, in the Wellington region of New Zealand. The field will accommodate 80 players, with places awarded through the World Croquet Federation’s ranking, wildcard and member-association allocation processes.

Canadian AC Nationals: Giraud Makes It Three in a Row

The 2026 Canadian Association Croquet National Championship was held June 4-7 in Bayfield, Ontario, bringing together many of the best association croquet players from across Canada and abroad. The championship was jointly hosted at the Bayfield International Croquet Club with support by the Seaforth Lawn Bowling Club.

The Saint James Croquet Association in Saint James, North Carolina, has launched a new collection of interactive online croquet tools and virtual games designed to help players learn, practice and stay engaged with the sport. Originally developed for SJCA members, the tools are publicly available through the club’s new website for any croquet player interested in exploring shot planning, angles, tactics or virtual play.
