2023 CROQUET NETWORK POWER LIST

As part of our end-of-year traditions, Croquet Network is excited to present our 2023 Top 25 Croquet Power List as a standalone article on this New Year’s Eve. Congratulations to Dave Trimmer Mallets for topping our list for the year as the most popular keyword on Croquet Network. Trimmer Mallets finished #2 in 2022 just behind Matthew Essick, who slipped to #3 in this year. Overall, the list tells a story of the croquet year, with plenty of surprises.

02. College Croquet National Championship
Up from the #5 spot in 2022. The US College Nationals always draws interest on Croquet Network. We would love to see more reporting on this event.

Based in D.C., the secretive club is a popular result for Croquet Network readers.

06. Welsh Croquet Association
The top-ranked croquet association on our list moved up from #22 in 2022.

07. Chesapeake Bay Croquet Club
The world’s largest croquet club based in Hartfield, Virginia, will host the 2024 WCF World GC Championship in October.

08. Greenwich Croquet Club
One of the USCA’s original five clubs.

09. Sherif Abdelwahab
Abdelwahab took his fifth USCA GC Nationals singles title in September and has now tied Jeff Soo with 21 total national titles.

10. Robert Fletcher
The former AC World Champion made a run to the final four in this summer’s world AC championship.

11. Terminator Mallets
Based in New Zealand, Terminator mallets also proved to be popular with Croquet Network followers in 2023.

2023 saw a lot of activity in Texas and that earned the city a first-time spot on the Power 25.

Popular New Hampshire Club moved up from the #18 spot this year.

17. PFC Hoop Maker
Based in Australia, the mallet company also drew a lot of interest from our readers.

18. Jeff Soo
The 21-time US National Champion is a force on the court and off. Known as a top tournament manager, he also writes the Let’s Talk Tactics column for the Croquet News magazine.

19. Brass Spot
Spanish mallet maker enjoys great popularity as the sport continues to surge in Spain.

20. Zack Watson
Current World AC #16 player was part of the US Solomon Trophy team in November and also made the Knockout at AC Worlds in July.

21. Cheryl Bromley
As a driving force behind the GC movement in America, Bromley will be inducted into the U.S. Croquet Hall of Fame in March.

22. Stephen Morgan
Ranked #29 in the World AC rankings, Morgan made the knockout at this summer’s AC Worlds falling to champ Robert Fulford in four games. Also, played for Team USA Solomon team and won this year’s First Eight. Has 11 national championship titles.

23. Debbie Davidoff
Davidoff had a strong year challenging for the USCA’s Women’s GC Grand Prix title while also participating in the Women’s GC World Championship.

24. Ian Burridge
Burridge just wrapped up a term as World Croquet Federation president.

25. Shane Hettler
Hettler’s 2022 American Six Wicket National Championship had staying power as he snagged the final spot on our 2023 list.
