Jeff Soo certainly has his name all over the USCA Champion's page. In fact, he currently holds five National American Rules titles in both singles (2013, 2008, 2005, 2002, 2000) and doubles (2013, 2008, 2002, 2001, 1999). When the balls roll out for the 2014 USCA American Rules Croquet National Championships to be held October 5-11 at the National Croquet Center in West Palm Beach, Florida, Soo will be on the cusp of an unprecedented achievement in US croquet. Soo has a chance to become the first player in US history to win six national titles in both singles and doubles.
It won't be easy as more than 40 of the best six-wicket croquet players in the country will be looking to snag the title as well. In fact, this year’s event has attracted top players such as Ben Rothman, Danny Huneycutt, Doug Grimsley, Brian Cumming, John Osborn, Richard Curtis and Leo McBride – all previous national title winners.
The event will be the 38th edition and was first held in 1977 when the USCA was founded. Doug Grimsley and past USCA President, Richard Curtis are Co-Tournament Directors.
The tournament itself will feature three flights of play in singles and two flights in doubles action. Block play starts Sunday, October 5, followed by elimination play. The finals will be on Saturday, October 11.
