On the scene this week is a promo video for a modest GoFundMe campaign by George Saad and Zak Jambor to raise $6,000 to produce a documentary on croquet called To Find True Pleasure. You can read about the full project on their site www.tofindcroquet.com.

The USCA posted a helpful new 21-part video series this week on referee instruction produced by Bob Kroeger and Ted Prentis. I skipped ahead to the segment on marking balls, which is quite useful. I am looking forward to viewing the full series. It's definitely a good approach to helping everyone on the court.
Morning Coffee: WCF Grant to SCA
It was another busy week in the croquet world as the WCF released it's February PDF Newsletter. Highlights include coaching sessions in England in May and a one-day AC course held prior to the AC World Championship in Florida next month. The WCF also approved a grant to the Scottish Croquet Association for support of the Balgreen Club project in Edinburgh, which involves taking over bowling greens to create a new club.

One of the quietly growing segments for the sport of croquet on the internet is YouTube. The traffic is still minor compared to the crazy videos that will notch views in the millions, but the overall segment of YouTube channels that Croquet Network tracks has grown from 12 to 18 since the start of 2014. And the total views for that group has gone from 434,000 to 603,000 during the same timeframe.

AUSTRALIAN OPEN: Robert Fletcher claimed his fourth straight Australian Open singles title with a 3-0 win over Kevin Beard (26tp-0, 26tpo-14, 26tpo-13) at the Victorian Croquet Centre, Cairnlea, Victoria. The event was held November 18-23 and Fletcher went 14-0 and is the world number one AC player with a 2787 dynamic grade and a 71-9 record for 2014. Full bracket.

Morning Coffee: Croquet or Roque?
At the top of this week's news is the Norwegian Nine-Wicket Croquet video (see link below). There is so much that the video touches on, but the main discussion was centered toward the concept that it is really roque that is being played. It is of course interesting to see how the game has evolved in different parts of the world. No matter what the Norwegians think they are playing, I would agree with the assertion that it is pretty much roque. Fundamentally though, it hardly matters. Take away the short mallet restriction and one-hand rule (seemingly unique for Norway) and it's pretty much nine-wicket croquet.
