USCA Player Availability: 2023 AC World Championship

The USCA is requesting player availability for the 2023 WCF Association World Croquet Championship to be held July 15-23 in London, England. The main host venue will be the Hurlingham Club, which will be the venue for the finals, but significant parts of the championship may also be held at Dulwich Croquet Club, Ealing Croquet Club, Roehampton Club, Surbiton Croquet Club and Woking Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

2023 WCF Association Croquet Women’s World Championship

The closing date for WCF members nations to nominate players for membership places was September 12, 2022. South Africa released one of their places, but all of the other members have nominated players per their entitlement. The released place has been awarded to Rosemary Newsham who had the highest qualifying Max DG over 12 months of the remaining players.

WCF Announces Changes for 2022 Championships

The MC has been in discussion with Croquet New Zealand regarding the three World Championships scheduled for early 2022. Current outbreaks in Australia have led to lockdowns in both Australia and New Zealand and their nationwide travel bubble is again on hold. Travel into New Zealand currently requires an expensive two week isolation in a hotel and there is little indication of when this requirement might be lifted. Additionally, there is a clear risk that further lockdowns may be imposed in either country.

Many congratulations to Paddy Chapman on becoming our new AC World Champion! The final was a good quality match played in easy conditions – apart from during one downpour when the lawns became unplayable for about 10-15 minutes. Unfortunately, the hoops were left in the same holes that had been created on Wednesday and which had become wet inside with overnight rain. This made the final very much a shooting contest rather than a more complete test of skill. We need to ensure that hoops are in fresh holes for finals – as is normally the case.

Chapman is AC World Champion

Paddy Chapman found a way back from down 2-1 to claim his first WCF Association Croquet World Championship with a 26tp-19, 0-26tp, 0-26tp, 26tp-11, 26tp-9 win over Reg Bamford yesterday at Kelburn Municipal Croquet Club in Wellington, New Zealand. It was Chapman's second appearance in the final after he made it in 2013, but lost to Robert Fletcher. Bamford made his fifth appearance and is now 4-1 in AC World finals play.
